The Modoc Braves will head out to face off against the Redding Christian Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Modoc will head out to face Redding Christian after giving up their first home loss of the season on Friday. The Braves took a 20-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of Trinity. Having soared to a lofty 41 points in the game before, the Braves couldn't push the score so high this time.
Despite the loss, Modoc got top-tier performance from Sutton Cockrell, who rushed for 164 yards.
Meanwhile, Redding Christian strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They breezed past Weed to the tune of 61-18. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Cougars are ranked 1012th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Redding Christian's win came from a few key players Modoc will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Wyatt Shaw, who threw for 205 yards and six TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes. He has been hot, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last eight times he's played. Conner Moore helped Shaw out on the ground, rushing for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six carries.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Redding Christian proved: they limited Weed to a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. The team can thank David LaBabera for the heroic effort on defense: he. Redding Christian didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 14.4.
Redding Christian's defense also made the game a nightmare for the opposing QB, racking up 14 sacks. It was truly a group effort as Kamdyn Coates, Brodie Ogden, and Caden Russo picked up two apiece. Thanks to that big game, Russo is now up to 11 sacks on the season. Collin Matos got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Redding Christian's record is now 10-0. As for Modoc, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 4-6.
Modoc was taken down by Redding Christian 60-6 in their previous matchup back in October. Can the Braves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
