South Yosemite recap Sept. 26, 2012
Duke Tarrell of South ran for the longest rushing play in South Yosemite this season against Foothill last week. Tarrell's team beat the Trojans as he sprinted for 92 yards on the play and finished with 162 in all.
Golden Valley moved up to 592 from 683 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 49-21 win over North helped the Bulldogs improve their standing.
Kamari Cotton-moya was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 187 yards as Ridgeview topped Liberty. Teammate Brandon Tripp added to the ground attack by rushing for 134 yards.
Velasquez Edgar made the biggest impact on defense this week as South bested Foothill. The 6-foot-2 senior forced one fumble and racked up 3.5 sacks.
Perez Eddy put up the best numbers through the air as John Wren's team beat Mike Gregg's team. He finished with seven completions for 67 yards and one touchdown. Eddy's favorite target this week was Johnson Asonte, who caught one pass for 24 yards.
Baines was the best wideout in South Yosemite this week as the Wolf Pack bested the Patriots. Baines tallied two receptions for 35 yards. Tevin Keeton helped Ridgeview's passing attack out by catching one ball for 30 yards.
Golden Valley's Alexander Soto and Demetric Fair have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Soto has thrown for 1124 yards this season, while Fair, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 29 catches for 506 yards. Ridgeview's Cotton-moya leads the league in rushing yards with 726.
The Rebels were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to first in the league. South defeated the Trojans 33-7 earlier in the week.
