Wolfe County is 2-8 against Estill County since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wolves will face off against the Engineers at 6:00 p.m. Wolfe County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Wolfe County fell victim to Breathitt County and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 2-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Wolves' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Estill County, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They put the hurt on Owsley County with a sharp 18-1 win on Monday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Engineers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Dawson Moore made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kooper Powell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025. Mason Griggs was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Estill County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Owsley County only posted an OBP of .421.
Wolfe County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Estill County, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wolfe County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Estill County struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wolfe County skirted past Estill County 1-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Engineers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
