The Wilson Wildcats pushed their score all the way to 55 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 66-55 to Walnut. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wilson in their matchups with Walnut: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the loss, Wilson saw an underclassman step up: Justin Kayode scored 23 points along with six rebounds. Ryan Lin was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Walnut's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cory Fluker, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Fluker continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Leon, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Wilson's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 12-12. As for Walnut, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.
Wilson will be playing in front of their home fans against Los Altos at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Los Altos knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 contests -- so hopefully Wilson likes a good challenge. As for Walnut, they will head out on the road to face off against Diamond Bar at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Diamond Bar is ranked 266th, while Walnut is ranked 273rd).
