Pinewood entered their tilt with Capuchino on Saturday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They came out on top against the Capuchino Mustangs by a score of 65-56. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while the Mustangs are ranked 849th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Capuchino lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Dominic Vanden Berghe, who posted 13 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks. Vanden Berghe has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Alas, who had 11 points.

Pinewood pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points per game. As for Capuchino, they moved to 4-5 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Pinewood Panthers challenge the Terra Nova Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on January 4, 2025. One thing working in Pinewood's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches. As for Capuchino, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Burton at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
