Avon Park and Lake Placid are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but likely not for long. The Avon Park Red Devils will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Lake Placid Dragons at 7:30 p.m. Avon Park has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Avon Park managed to slip by Fort Meade the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Avon Park came up short against Fort Meade two weeks ago, falling 18-8. It was the first time this season that the Red Devils let down their fans at home.
Kamya Brassell stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Henderson, who scored a run and stole Four bases. while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Avon Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .517 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Lake Placid came up short against Jupiter on Monday and fell 9-6. The Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Tara Person made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Allie Oliveros was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Lake Placid's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Avon Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Avon Park has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Lake Placid struggles in that department as they've averaged .503. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Avon Park skirted past Lake Placid 7-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Does Avon Park have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lake Placid turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
