The Brookfield Warriors were the 67-45 winner over the Champion Golden Flashes when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Brookfield was the victim of a tough 41-21 defeat at the hands of Champion on Saturday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Brookfield has scored all season.
Brookfield's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mya Jumper, who scored seven points, and Cailey Wellman who scored seven points along with 15 rebounds. Wellman scored a full 33.3% of Brookfield's points, the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Isabella Meyer was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with eight rebounds and four steals for Champion. The game was Meyer's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Strock, who scored six points.
Brookfield's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-7. As for Champion, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
Brookfield will be playing at home against Newton Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Champion, they will head out on the road to face off against Bristol at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bristol will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 625th, while Champion is ranked 273rd).
