North Newton took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 31-12 victory over the Whiting Oilers. For the Spartans, this counts as revenge for the 63-0 win the Oilers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.
North Newton found their leader in sophomore Bryce Gibson, who threw for 130 yards and one TD while completing 90% of his passes, and also rushed for 53 yards. Jared Kutsch got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for North Newton, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Kutsch, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
