The Simpson Academy Cougars fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Leake Academy Rebels on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Rebels 61-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Leake Academy had a senior duo take command as Katye Jones scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and Olivia Rudolph dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rudolph has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Anna Morgan Young, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Simpson Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 18-11. As for Leake Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Simpson Academy will take on Taylorsville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Taylorsville is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games. As for Leake Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Grace Christian at 6:00 p.m. Grace Christian is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
