After flying high against the AuSable Valley Patriots last Saturday, the Gouverneur Wildcats came back down to earth. Gouverneur suffered a rough 66-42 loss at the hands of Canton on Monday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Gouverneur in their matchups with Canton: they've now lost five in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Gouverneur lost, one person who can't be blamed is Raine Rumble. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points. Rumble is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Brodie Burns was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Gouverneur has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Canton, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.
Gouverneur will be playing at home against Norwood-Norfolk at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Norwood-Norfolk is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Canton, they will head out on the road to face off against Potsdam at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Potsdam will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while Canton is ranked 77th).
