The Hays Indians won the last time they faced the Liberal Redskins, and things went their way on Friday too. Hays took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 66-32 victory over Liberal. Given Hays' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Liberal is ranked 198th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Zayden Martinez and Beto Torres certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Martinez scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two blocks, while Torres scored nine points.
Hays pushed their record up to 10-6 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Liberal, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.
Hays will be playing in front of their home fans against Abilene at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Abilene will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Hays surely won't give up without a fight. As for Liberal, they will head out on the road to challenge Great Bend at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Great Bend knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Liberal likes a good challenge.
