Even though the Mater Academy Charter Lions scored an imposing 62 points on Saturday, the Elite Academy Eagles still came out on top. Elite Academy walked away with a 70-62 victory over Mater Academy Charter. Given Elite Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Mater Academy Charter is ranked 271st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Elite Academy to victory were Ladainian Brooks and Kyler Theophile. Brooks dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds, while Theophile went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 3 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Theophile has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Morgan, who scored nine points.
Despite the loss, Mater Academy Charter still got an impressive performance from Solomon Leinbock, who went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 5 assists. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Tello, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Elite Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Mater Academy Charter, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-7.
Elite Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face ABF Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. As for Mater Academy Charter, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Westminster Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Westminster Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Mater Academy Charter likes a good challenge.
