Porter Ridge is 2-8 against the Warriors since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Porter Ridge Pirates will head out on the road to square off against the Weddington Warriors at 8:00 p.m. Porter Ridge is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, Porter Ridge beat the Mavericks 50-43. The victory was all the more spectacular given Porter Ridge's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while the Mavericks are ranked 93rd).
Porter Ridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ziggy Harris, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Harris is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Dennis Kurucu was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Weddington came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Monroe 69-44. Weddington has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 22 points or more this season.
Porter Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 7-13. As for Weddington, their win bumped their record up to 18-1.
Things could have been worse for Porter Ridge, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 57-43 loss to the Warriors in their previous matchup back in January. Can Porter Ridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
