Football Recap: Loniki Jackson and Nathan Jennings Lead the Defense for Hawthorne Win

Hawthorne barely beat Newberry the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hornets were the clear victors by a 32-7 margin over the Panthers on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Hornets' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Panthers are ranked 116th).

Hawthorne didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Loniki Jackson and Nathan Jennings. Jennings is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as he's now defended at least one in each of the last four games he's played dating back to last season.

Hawthorne has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 37.0 points this season. As for Newberry, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hawthorne will host Florida State University High School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Newberry, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Vanguard at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
