The Pima Roughriders put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Arizona Lutheran Academy 48-31. Given Pima's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Arizona Lutheran Academy is ranked 122nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pima's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ady Hoopes, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and four steals. Hoopes is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Richardson, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Pima pushed their record up to 7-0 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 35.82 points. As for Arizona Lutheran Academy, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pima will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Snowflake at 5:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Snowflake is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games. Arizona Lutheran Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Heritage Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Heritage Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
