The Iowa Yellowjackets will be playing at home against the Sam Houston Broncos at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Iowa has 18 straight wins, Sam Houston has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
In what's become a running theme this season, Iowa gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat St. Louis Catholic 66-37 on the road. Given Iowa's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while St. Louis Catholic is ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Sam Houston, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 46-32 loss to New Iberia on Tuesday. Sam Houston was down 41-18 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Iowa's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 27-3. As for Sam Houston, their loss dropped their record down to 16-13.
Everything came up roses for Iowa against Sam Houston when the teams last played back in January of 2022 as the team secured a 66-36 victory. Does Iowa have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sam Houston turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
