This season hasn't been kind to the St. Edward Beavers, who are still winless after their seventh contest. They were outmatched by Burwell on the road and fell 70-10. St. Edward was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-5.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Edward struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Burwell racked up nine assists.
Burwell found their leader in underclassman Brookelyn Gideon, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for her. Kaitlyn Hughes was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine steals.
St. Edward bumped their record down to 0-7 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Burwell, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Edward will be home for the holidays to greet Elba at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Elba is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Burwell won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Anselmo-Merna at 6:00 p.m. on December 16th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Anselmo-Merna is ranked 132nd, while Burwell is ranked 131st).
