WPIAL AAAA Southeastern recap Sept. 26, 2012
Mt. Lebanon's Doran Graham rumbled for the longest rushing play in WPIAL AAAA Southeastern this season in his game against Baldwin last week. Graham ran for 90 yards on the play and finished with 179 on the day as his team beat the Highlanders.
Woodland Hills moved up to 64 from 98 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wolverines climbed the ranks as a result of a 35-0 win over Plum.
Mt. Lebanon's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Roth threw for 238 and three touchdowns and Mike Briercheck had 123 yards receiving. Troy Apke helped Mt. Lebanon's passing attack out by catching five balls for 87 yards.
Mike Melynk's team's Roth and Apke have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Roth has thrown for 776 yards this season, while Apke, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 16 catches for 339 yards. Pete Coughlin from Upper St. Clair leads the league in rushing with 218 yards.
A big matchup in WPIAL AAAA Southeastern this week will be when Woodland Hills takes on the Blue Devils. At the moment, George Novak's team is in second, while Mt. Lebanon is in fourth.
The Wolverines were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to second in the league. Woodland Hills beat the Mustangs 35-0 earlier in the week.
