Catawba Ridge is 8-2 against Indian Land since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Catawba Ridge Copperheads will head out on the road to face off against the Indian Land Warriors at 6:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Catawba Ridge will head into Monday's contest out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They were dealt a 64-23 defeat at the hands of Lexington. The matchup marked the Copperheads' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
The losing side was boosted by Brooke Berninzoni, who posted five points and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Indian Land was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a 50-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Nation Ford.
Catawba Ridge will need focus on slowing down Emily Callahan, one of several Indian Land players who made an impact when they last played. She had 16 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lila Leung, who put up five points and nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Indian Land smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 24 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Catawba Ridge's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Indian Land, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Catawba Ridge has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Indian Land struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Catawba Ridge was able to grind out a solid victory over Indian Land in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 49-41. Will Catawba Ridge repeat their success, or does Indian Land have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
