The Turpin Spartans were the 44-37 winner over the Ross Rams when they last played one another back in January of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. Turpin took a 35-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ross. While losing is never fun, Turpin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while Ross is ranked 118th).
When it comes to explaining why Turpin lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Sophia Schiano. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Paige Dornheggen was another key contributor, scoring five points along with four blocks and three steals.
Turpin has not been sharp recently as the team has lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Ross, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6.
Turpin didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 53-48 loss vs. Seton on the 10th. Ross will head out on the road to challenge Waynesville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Waynesville will roll in looking for their 23rd straight win, something Ross surely won't give up without a fight.
