If the Thompson Valley Eagles were feeling good off their 79-37 takedown of the Fort Morgan Mustangs on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Thompson Valley took a 64-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mesa Ridge on Thursday. Thompson Valley lost against Mesa Ridge in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 70-23 score last time.
Thompson Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brady Kennison, who scored 27 points along with 7 rebounds. Kennison scored a full 51.9% of Thompson Valley's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Gustavo Varela-bencomo, who scored 9 points along with 12 rebounds and 3 steals.
Mesa Ridge was led to victory by Tevin Riehl and Bryce Riehl. Riehl scored 16 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists, while Riehl scored 18 points along with 5 steals. The match was Riehl's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Widic, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds.
Thompson Valley now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Mesa Ridge, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Thompson Valley's road trip will continue as they head out to face Widefield at 4:30 p.m. on December 8th. Mesa Ridge won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against The Classical Academy at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th. Allowing an average of 64 points per game, The Classical Academy has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this contest.
