Kearney has been on the road for two straight, but on Monday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Excelsior Springs Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Kearney has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Last Wednesday, Kearney was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 43-39 to the Warriors.
Despite the loss, Kearney saw an underclassman step up: Addison Taylor scored seven points along with four steals. Ryleigh Van emmerik was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Excelsior Springs' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They took a 48-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Winnetonka. While losing is never fun, Excelsior Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Griffins are ranked 157th).
Kearney has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for Excelsior Springs, they dropped their record down to 5-9 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Kearney against the Tigers when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 54-16 victory. With Kearney ahead 29-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
