Basketball Game Preview: Delta Panthers vs. Wauseon Indians

Delta is 2-8 against Wauseon since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Delta Panthers will face off against the Wauseon Indians at 7:30 p.m. Delta will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.

Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Delta beat Whitmer 45-40. Given Delta's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Whitmer is ranked 273rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Delta got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kendall Sprow out in front who posted 12 points along with six boards and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Sprow a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Abbey Todd, who earned nine points in addition to six assists and six rebounds.

Delta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 17 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Wauseon over Stryker in every quarter on their way to victory on Monday. Wauseon was the clear victor by a 55-35 margin over Stryker. The Indians have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Wauseon has also been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points per game. As for Delta, they pushed their record up to 17-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Delta strolled past Wauseon in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 36-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for Delta since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
