After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Modesto Christian, the St. Mary's Rams were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They walked away with a 57-44 win over West. Given St. Mary's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while West is ranked 317th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Mary's got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jake Loebs out in front who scored nine points along with three steals. Dominic Glero was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Despite the loss, West still got an impressive performance from Xavier (XJ) Cardona Renshaw, who scored 15 points along with three steals. The match was Cardona Renshaw's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Omari Smith, who scored 11 points.
St. Mary's victory bumped their record up to 14-4. As for West, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-7.
St. Mary's won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Tokay at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th. Tokay is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for West, they will head out on the road to face off against Modesto Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
