The Shadow Ridge Stallions are taking a road trip to take on the Red Mountain Mountain Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Shadow Ridge sitting on three straight wins and Red Mountain on ten.
Shadow Ridge's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Westwood with a sharp 10-0 victory.
Shadow Ridge got a great performance from Avery Mackey as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Mackey has posted since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Shadow Ridge let Taylor Agaman and Laci Hughes run wild. Agaman scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Hughes scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Hughes has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Scott, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Shadow Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Red Mountain got the win against Kofa on Friday by a conclusive 10-0. The Mountain Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by nine runs or more this season.
Payton Westra was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Vanessa Pollard also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Red Mountain pushed their record up to 10-3-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Shadow Ridge, their record is now 9-7-1.
Shadow Ridge's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Stallions have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Red Mountain, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Shadow Ridge continue to outrun the ball?
Shadow Ridge came up short against Red Mountain in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 6-1. Can the Stallions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
