The Santa Fe Raiders gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They skirted past Baker County 50-48. For Santa Fe, this counts as revenge for the 54-26 defeat Baker County walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Santa Fe found their leader in underclassman Haleigh Richburgh, who scored 18 points. Natalie Chohan was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Natalia Strachan, who scored 15 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Yamise Haygood, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 steals.
Santa Fe's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Baker County, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Santa Fe will take on Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Columbia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday. As for Baker County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Union County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
