South Jones got several good pitching performances, but Micah Coutta was perhaps the best, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Coutta has posted since back in February of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dylan Causey, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mylan Dykes, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Purvis never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Bay on Saturday. They blew past the Tigers 13-2.
Cannon Turner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Turner was even better at the plate, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Hudson Walker and Jacob Parker did most of the damage at the plate: Walker went a perfect3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Parker went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. JoJo Parker was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Purvis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bay only posted a batting average of .158.
Purvis now has a winning record of 2-1. As for South Jones, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
South Jones came up short against Purvis when the teams last played back in April of 2023, falling 4-1. Can South Jones avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
