The Union Catholic Vikings suffered their closest defeat since January 18th on Wednesday. They fell just short of Elizabeth by a score of 55-52. While losing is never fun, Union Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Elizabeth is ranked 85th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elizabeth to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jah'nae Lembrick, who scored 17 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Alexandra Koon was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Union Catholic has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Elizabeth, their victory bumped their record up to 13-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Catholic will face off against Oak Knoll at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Elizabeth, they will head out on the road to take on Hillsborough at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
