A feisty cat fight will be fought as Asotin Panthers challenge Colton Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Asotin has given up an average of 17 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Asotin took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Genesee, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Asotin sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-12 win over Genesee on Wednesday. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Georgia Schaefer and Kiera Nielson made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Schaefer tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Nielson didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. At bat, Schaefer scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5, while Nielson scored three runs while going 1-for-6. Schaefer also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabella Dougan, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Avery Triplett, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Colton had to start their season on the road on Wednesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of Dayton by a score of 9-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Kiya Soza led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Mere Bell, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Asotin's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Colton, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-1.
Asotin skirted past Colton 13-11 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Does Asotin have another victory up their sleeve, or will Colton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
