Rye is 8-1 against Las Animas since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Thunderbolts will host the Trojans at 3:00 p.m. Rye is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
Friday just wasn't the day for Rye's offense. They lost 10-0 to Fowler on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Thunderbolts have lost by exactly ten runs.
Meanwhile, Las Animas got themselves on the board against Calhan last Wednesday, but Calhan never followed suit. They blew past the Bulldogs 10-0. Considering the Trojans have won five games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Logan Servaes made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Servaes was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Las Animas let Jesus Lopez and Nicholas Duran run wild. Lopez scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Duran scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave Duran a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kree Wallace, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Las Animas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calhan only posted an OBP of .240.
Rye's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Las Animas, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rye has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Las Animas struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 12.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Rye came out on top in a nail-biter against Las Animas in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Thunderbolts repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
