The AZ Compass Prep National Dragons will face off against the Trinity Christian Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with AZ Compass Prep National sitting on seven straight victories and Trinity Christian on four.
AZ Compass Prep National's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Alta Vista 8-0. Considering the Dragons have won five contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sebastian Quiroz was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Luis Quiroz, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Trinity Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Wickenburg Christian Academy, sneaking past 3-2. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Warriors have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Josh Partin and Connor Wallace were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Partin pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Wallace didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Partin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Partin scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-4, while Wallace scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Partin has posted since back in March of 2024.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Brenner, who went 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.
Trinity Christian pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for AZ Compass Prep National, their record is now 7-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. AZ Compass Prep National has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Trinity Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
AZ Compass Prep National might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Trinity Christian in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
