The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs will head out to challenge the Greenfield Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Monte Vista Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Monte Vista Christian barely beat Pacific Grove the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Monte Vista Christian's pitchers stepped up to hand Pacific Grove a 7-0 shutout on Saturday. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-23), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Jackson Haddad made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Monte Vista Christian let Evan Vessey and Carter Wright run wild. Vessey went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Wright scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mikie Melenudo, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Greenfield entered their game against North Monterey County on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Greenfield fell just short of North Monterey County by a score of 3-2. The matchup marked the Bruins' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Nate Trujillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits.
On the hitting side, Greenfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Ramos, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
The victory made it two in a row for Monte Vista Christian and bumps their season record up to 9-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Greenfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-2.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Monte Vista Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .372. However, it's not like Greenfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
