The Weir Red Riders's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Steubenville Big Red at 8:00 p.m. on December 27th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Weir scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 80-65 win over Madonna. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Colin Cross was his usual excellent self, scoring 42 points along with four steals. The game was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Damir Mowder, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Steubenville on the road against Brooke on Thursday as the team secured a 85-37 win. With Steubenville ahead 39-18 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Steubenville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keith Lewis, who scored 20 points along with three steals. Santino Haney was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists and four steals.
Weir's record is now 2-3. As for Steubenville, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Wednesday's game is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Weir have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 23 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Steubenville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 29.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Weir beat Steubenville 60-51 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Steubenville's Phaeton Hill, who scored 29 points along with four steals. Now that he won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be that much easier for Weir to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
