After a string of four wins, The Culver City Centaurs''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Palos Verdes by a score of 34-31. While losing is never fun, Culver City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Palos Verdes is ranked 31st).
When it comes to explaining why Culver City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sammy Silvia. Despite the final result, he threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns. Myles Singleton also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Palos Verdes got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryan Rakowski out in front who threw for 91 yards and three touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Luke Gayton, who picked up 44 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Culver City's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Palos Verdes, their win was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Culver City will face off against Santa Monica at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Santa Monica focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday. As for Palos Verdes, they will head out on the road to face off against Peninsula at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Peninsula is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
