Houston Math Science & Tech is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 58 points on Friday, they were much more limited against Heights on Monday. They had to suffer through a 94-26 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1241st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 314th).
Trevan Williams was Houston Math Science & Tech's leading scorer, having posted nine points. Chadwick Stearns held things down on the boards with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bellaire beat Lamar 68-60 on Tuesday.
Houston Math Science & Tech better keep an eye on Shelton Henderson. He was instrumental in Bellaire's win, going 8 of 11 en route to 25 points along with six boards and three steals. The match was Henderson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kohlman Dutton, who posted 16 points.
Bellaire was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.
Bellaire pushed their record up to 15-8 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.2 points per game. As for Houston Math Science & Tech, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-14.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Houston Math Science & Tech has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 31.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Bellaire struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Houston Math Science & Tech was dealt a bruising 77-17 loss at the hands of Bellaire in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Houston Math Science & Tech was down 41-5.
