Chugiak has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Eagle River Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Tuesday, Chugiak faced Dimond in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Chugiak lost to Dimond at home by a decisive 49-31 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Chugiak in their matchups with Dimond: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Eagle River, who are still winless after their fifth game. They took a 53-34 bruising from Bartlett on Tuesday.
Brooklyn Rollman put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. She also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Gabby Palozzini, who scored five points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Eagle River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Chugiak now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Eagle River, they bumped their record down to 0-5 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything went Chugiak's way against Eagle River in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as Chugiak made off with a 41-20 victory. Does Chugiak have another victory up their sleeve, or will Eagle River turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
