Monmouth United and Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Red Storm are taking a road trip to challenge the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Monmouth United has four straight wins, Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Monmouth United gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Monmouth-Roseville as they made off with a 14-4 victory. Considering the Red Storm have won nine matches by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Monmouth United let Chance Stewart and Egan Marshall run wild. Stewart went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Marshall got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. What's more, Marshall posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Elliott Copeland, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI.
Monmouth United always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monmouth-Roseville only posted an OBP of .357.
Meanwhile, Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] didn't have quite enough to beat Sherrard on Wednesday and fell 8-6. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by exactly two runs.
Monmouth United pushed their record up to 22-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge], their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.
Everything went Monmouth United's way against Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Monmouth United made off with an 8-1 win. Do the Red Storm have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
