Basketball Recap: The Burlington School Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact The Burlington School can now relate to. They fell 55-45 to the Freedom Christian Academy Patriots on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 63-61 back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, The Burlington School still got an impressive performance from Kamryn Russell, who posted 24 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The game was Russell's third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Alaiyah Mitchell, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, The Burlington School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Allison Lett was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 28 points and 22 rebounds for Freedom Christian Academy. Lett is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in each of the last eight games she's played. Neveah Sanford was another key player, putting up six points and seven rebounds.

The Burlington School's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Freedom Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

The Burlington School does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Freedom Christian Academy, they will take on Rocky Mount Academy in a tournament on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Rocky Mount Academy has won 11 straight at home, while Freedom Christian Academy won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
