Basketball Recap: Burke Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Burke took on Langford on Monday. The Burke Cougars took a 59-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Langford Lions. The defeat leaves the Cougars without a win on the season.

Despite the loss, Burke still got an impressive performance from Quinten Bull, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. Bull is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Bartling, who posted five points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Burke was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Langford only posted three assists.

Kassen Keough continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Langford, going 11 of 23 on his way to 32 points and seven steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Keough has scored at least a third of Langford's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Mertz, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points.

Burke's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Langford, with the victory, they broke their 25-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burke will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Andes Central/Dakota Christian at 8:00 p.m. on January 9th. As for Langford, they will look to defend their home court on January 7th against Redfield at 8:00 p.m. Langford has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
