After three games on the road, Worth County is heading back home. They will take on the South Holt Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Worth County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully South Holt likes a good challenge.
Last Monday, Worth County was able to grind out a solid win over Mound City/Craig, taking the game 57-46. Given Worth County's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Mound City/Craig is ranked 454th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Worth County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyler New, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. New hasn't dropped below 15 points for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb New, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, South Holt was the victim of a tough 70-44 defeat at the hands of Maysville on Friday.
Worth County's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.9 points per game. As for South Holt, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-5 record this season.
Worth County was able to grind out a solid win over South Holt in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, winning 53-42. Will Worth County repeat their success, or does South Holt have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
