The Memorial Roughriders were the 78-55 winner over the Shawnee Indians when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Memorial fell 69-57 to Shawnee on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Shawnee found their leader in underclassman Beckett Bertke, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bertke has scored at least a third of Shawnee's points. Another player making a difference was Trevick Bertke, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Memorial's defeat ended a eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-5. As for Shawnee, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Memorial won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Indian Lake at 7:30 p.m. on January 27th. Indian Lake will be looking to keep their nine-game home win streak alive. As for Shawnee, they will head out on the road to take on Van Wert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
