Normal West is 2-8 against Normal Community since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Wildcats will host the Ironmen at 4:30 p.m. Normal West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Normal West couldn't beat Lake Zurich on Saturday even though they stacked five runs on them in the sixth inning. The Wildcats came up short against the Bears, falling 17-9.
Cooper Temples and Chase Knuth stepped up to the plate in a big way. Temples went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Knuth went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sam McCully, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Normal Community entered their tilt with Bradley-Bourbonnais on Saturday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Boilermakers.
Jonah Roper looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gavin Michaels, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Drew Stevens was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Normal Community hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive contests.
Normal Community pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games. As for Normal West, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Normal West hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Normal Community struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
