The West Mesa Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 70-23 defeat at the hands of Sandia. West Mesa has not had much luck with Sandia recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Marsai Martinez was West Mesa's leading scorer, having posted ten points.
Sandia got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sydney Benally out in front who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Hope Giddings was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds.
West Mesa has not been sharp recently as the team has lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Sandia, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-2.
West Mesa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-44 defeat vs. Del Norte on the 8th. Sandia has also already played their next contest, a 75-68 defeat against Farmington on the 9th.
