Baseball Game Preview: Fossil Ridge SaberCats vs. Poudre Impalas

For the second straight game, Fossil Ridge will face off against Poudre. The SaberCats will head out to take on the Impalas at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fossil Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.

Fossil Ridge barely beat Poudre the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The SaberCats never let the Impalas get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory on Tuesday. The SaberCats haven't had any issues with the Impalas recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Logan Hessler looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luc Gaca-Thiele, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mason Griffin, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Fossil Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poudre only managed one hit.

Fossil Ridge's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Poudre, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-6 record.

Fossil Ridge's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The SaberCats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game.
