Softball Recap: Western Now 9-1 over Last Ten Games

Western lost to Mishawaka back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Panthers blew past the Cavemen 16-1. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by seven runs or more this season.

Kylie Miller made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Miller was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Western got a massive performance out of Brynley Erb, who fired off four runs, two triples, and two doubles while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs Erb has posted over her last 13 games. Another player making a difference was Kayleigh Auth, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Western kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in four consecutive contests.

Western has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mishawaka, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-5.

Western and Mishawaka should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Panthers will square off against Kokomo at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (18 vs. 133). Meanwhile, Mishawaka (ranked 70th) will meet Warsaw (ranked 228th) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
