Southeast Guilford hasn't had much luck against Northwest Guilford recently, but that could start to change on Friday. It'll be Northside v. Southside when the Southeast Guilford Falcons and the Northwest Guilford Vikings meet at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Southeast Guilford's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last six matchups.
Southeast Guilford lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Wheatmore, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's contest. Southeast Guilford put the hurt on Wheatmore with a sharp 12-3 win on Wednesday. Considering the Falcons have won five games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Katie Jenkins-Cowart was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Cailynn Sockwell was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those doubles marked the first that she hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Reaghan Coble, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Southeast Guilford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Northwest Guilford's offense. They lost 10-0 to Oak Grove on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Vikings' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Southeast Guilford pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Northwest Guilford, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Southeast Guilford couldn't quite get it done against Northwest Guilford in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can Southeast Guilford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
