The Marblehead Magicians will venture away from home to face off against the Danvers Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Marblehead is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Marblehead will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Beverly, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Magicians' pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 1-0 shutout on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Danvers). They put the hurt on Winthrop with a sharp 16-0 win on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Falcons with their most commanding win of the season.
Kyla Moroney was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Lila Flynn and Addi McCarty did most of the damage at the plate: Flynn went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base, while McCarty went 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI. Flynn also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Landry, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Danvers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Winthrop only posted a batting average of .118.
Danvers now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Marblehead, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0.
Marblehead took their win against Danvers when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Magicians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
