D2 District 5 (8 Man) recap Oct. 3, 2012
Giltner extended the longest winning streak in D2 District 5 (8 Man) this week by beating Fullerton, 44-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Hornets.
Spalding Academy took down Cedar Valley 69-9 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Giltner's dynamic duo of Jake Findley and Kyle Hawthorne proved tough for the Warriors to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Findley threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns and Hawthorne had 130 yards receiving. Dustin Hastings helped Giltner's passing attack out by catching eight balls for 109 yards.
Clay Weber was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 214 yards as Pleasanton beat Fullerton. Teammate Jake Neal added to the ground attack by rushing for 71 yards.
The Hornets' Findley and Hawthorne have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Findley has thrown for 1498 yards this season, while Hawthorne, a 5-foot-6 receiver, has 32 catches for 575 yards. The Bulldogs' Weber leads the league in rushing yards with 222.
A big matchup in D2 District 5 (8 Man) this week will be when Ryan Haughton's team takes on the Knights. The Warriors are currently in third, while Spalding Academy is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Pleasanton and Giltner face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Ricci Westland's team comes in having scored 100 this season, while the Hornets have scored 297. The Bulldogs scored 64 points last week as they defeated Heartland Lutheran.
Fullerton made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 404 from 490. The advance stemmed from a 44-0 victory over the Warriors last week.
