Even though the Athens Drive Jaguars scored an imposing 55 points on Wednesday, the Wakefield Wolverines still came out on top. Wakefield snuck past Athens Drive with a 61-55 victory. Given Wakefield's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Athens Drive is ranked 412th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wakefield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Taj Boone-Chambers out in front who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Syncere Burnette, who scored 11 points along with six assists.
Despite the loss, Athens Drive still got an impressive performance from Chase Hardy, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hardy has scored all season. Ryan Poggioli was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Wakefield's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Athens Drive, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.
Wakefield will look to defend their home court on Friday against Rolesville at 7:45 p.m. Rolesville is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Athens Drive, they will head out on the road to face off against Sanderson at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Sanderson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Wednesday.
