The Arrupe Jesuit Generals's seven-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They snuck past Lake County with a 68-64 win. Arrupe Jesuit's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Arrupe Jesuit was led to victory by Xavier Martinez and Ari Cowans. Martinez scored 16 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds, while Cowans scored 30 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Martinez posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Oscar Padilla, who scored eight points along with 15 rebounds and two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Lake County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Isaiah Martinez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Martinez hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. Jaxon Wood was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Arrupe Jesuit's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-7. As for Lake County, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Arrupe Jesuit will take on KIPP Denver Collegiate at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lake County, they will be playing at home against Jefferson at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
